I'm Still Here, the film debut from director dagger Smith that attracts on his experiences with terminal sickness, is as poignant and punchy as they are available. Matthew (portrayed by Dan Burman), a young man along with his whole life prior to him suddenly discovers that he has terminal cancer - therefore begins a roller-coaster ride of pain and heartbreak, from adaptive with family to falling taken with at the incorrect time.
Burman's sterling no holds barred performance married with Smith's raw, nearly documentary- like filmmaking (thanks conjointly to the wonderful motion-picture photography by DOP Joshua Carver) offer i am Still Here its emotional core – since the film looks therefore natural it makes it all the additional relatable, which it makes the drama all the additional sorrowful (oh affirmative, you actually can want tissues). all told the proper places, Burman channels melancholy, wit and pure agony on his journey through all the stages of grief depicted within the film that may actually pick at your compassion.
His co-stars square measure equally as sympathetic, notably Australopithecus afarensis Russell as married woman and Chris Szuca as mountain UN agency deliver contemporary, participating performances. while the main focus of Matthew's attention is on his love interest Olivia (Rebecca Bailey), the additional important relationships square measure those he forms in his community; notably within the case of fellow cancer sufferer married woman and also the alienated family unit mountain and Sophie. Matthew's realization of his larger role within the world around him will definitely have audiences feeling heat, though his kindness is shrouded in tragedy.
The film's somber score by Asche & philosopher, whose credits embrace Machine Gun clergyman and Monster's Ball, reinforces the moody tone well as Matthew struggles with regular life, knowing his time is growing shorter by the minute.
I'm Still Here could be a dose of contemporary, no-holds-barred filmmaking that may break your heart in 2 with its powerful drama. Smith has created his medium mark, as his stunning debut shows robust signs of nice promise in his future – he is most actually a director to look at.
